The Line: Buffalo Sabres / Boston Bruins --- Over/Under:
The Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins renew hostilities as these former Northeast division rivals meet up at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.
The Bruins head into Wednesday night’s encounter with their rivals from Buffalo having won two in a row and five of their first seven overall propelling them to third spot in the Atlantic division but with three games in hand. Boston is a very deep team that is definitely going to be a playoff contender once again, just a year removed from losing in the Cup finals to the Chicago Blackhawks and with the way they’ve played so far the B’s are definitely playing with a chip on their shoulder. It is hard to believe that the Bruins have only played seven games so far but with the way the schedule has worked out in the early going the Bruins have had ample time to prepare for opponent’s and thus far haven’t really had too difficult of a schedule. They get the hapless Sabres here who have only won one game all season and are finding it very difficult to score goals.
Buffalo has been the laughing stock of the early going this season as they have just a single victory and have dropped nine of ten games this season including all six at home. Buffalo was expected to regress a bit this season and be big time sellers at the trade deadline if not before but I don’t think anyone expected they’d struggle this much this early especially offensively. Despite their paltry record the Sabres have actually played pretty well in the defensive zone and Ryan Miller is definitely playing like he is in a contract year as he is auditioning for 29 other teams this year in hopes of being traded during the season or signing as a free agent in the offseason. While this may not be a popular pick we have had some success in these incredibly lopsided lines especially when the home team is the huge dog. We had the Panthers knocking off the Penguins and while this game is less circumstantial I think the Sabres finally show up for a game. I am going to take a shot with the Sabres to keep it close and even play them on the money line for a sprinkle.
