The Anaheim Ducks look for their fourth straight victory and eighth of the season when they head into Boston to take on a slumping Bruins team.
The Ducks dropped their first outing of the season on the road against the Colorado Avalanche but have only dropped two of their last 12 since and are just a single point back of the Sharks for top spot in the Pacific division. Anaheim is a well-built team as they have solid goaltending, depth on the blue line and a star studded fprward unit that makes them a candidate to win every single night of the week. Heading into Boston the Ducks will look for yet another victory but they have been susceptible on the road as all three of their losses have come away from the Honda Centre and they’ll have to play top level in this one if they want to beat the Bruins. Anaheim is likely to turn to Jonas Hiller as he matches up with Tuukka Rask of the Bruins.
The Bruins have lost their last two contests and have slipped to 7-4 on the year with three of their four losses coming at the TD Garden. Boston had an incredibly long offseason after the way their Stanley Cup bid and ultimately their season ended at home last year as the Blackhawks scored two late third period markers to clinch the series. The Bruins did make some moves in the offseason that should bolster their lineup but they did lose some pieces as well and will have to find ways to pick up the slack left by the likes of Tyler Seguin, Andrew Ference, and Rich Peverley. Tuukka Rask is enjoying another strong season as his second full year with the B’s but he will need some more support in front of goal if the Bruins are to repeat as Eastern Conference champions. Luckily for the Bruins right now the Red Sox are the talk of the town and the Celtics have started their season but Boston fans need not worry as the Bruins will be back in the postseason and this speed bump is only temporary. However, there is no reason why the Ducks should be considered this much of an underdog and with these teams being very close in terms of overall talent the value lies heavily with Anaheim and they’re more than capable of getting the win here tonight.
