The Hurricanes look to end a three game losing skid when they head to Boston to take on a Bruins team who currently sits atop the Atlantic division.
The Canes have had a tough go to start the year as they had to deal with another injury to goaltender Cam Ward and while he is back between the pipes and likely to start in this one it doesn’t feel the same as it did a couple years ago. Ward is one of the better goalies in the league but a lack of playing time over the past two seasons has dwindled the productivity of both Ward and the Canes collectively. Carolina does have a solid core of players but they need to add a couple pieces if they’re going to be competitive and whether that comes at the trade deadline or via free agency remains to be seen.
The Bruins are once again among the game’s best teams and as mentioned sit in first place in a division with great company and have a shot to win their ninth game at home this season against the Canes on Saturday. Boston is a very tough team to beat especially on the road and as we saw last year this team has what it takes to go all the way and they should very much be in the mix again this season. This is a terrible spot for Carolina as the Bruins are coming off a tough overtime loss and they always seem to respond well after a defeat and while the Canes are bound to snap out of their funk soon I don’t see it being on the road against a very good Bruins team.
