The Boston Bruins welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to TD Garden for Monday NHL action.
The Columbus Blue Jackets need a winning streak to escape the win one, lose one, win two, lose two mode they have been in the past few weeks. Columbus will be looking for some offense following a 2-1 defeat at the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night where the defense couldn’t win on their lonesome. Alexander Wennberg was the lone bright spot with his goal at 12:01 of the first.
The Hurricanes offense came off the sticks of Jordan Staal at 3:40 of the opening period and at 12:58 of the second period from Noah Hanflin. Scott Darling made 35 saves to improve to 8-9-6 for Carolina while Sergei Bobrovsky absorbed the loss for the Blue Jackets with a 22 save performance.
The objective for the Boston Bruins is to avoid a losing streak of any length to maintain their position in a competitive Atlantic. Boston has dropped consecutive contests following a 3-2, overtime loss to the visiting New York Rangers on Saturday. Boston saw scoring from Danton Heinen and Brad Marchand on the power play.
Michael Grabner and JT Miller tallied with the man advantage in regulation for New York before Mats Zuccarello lit the lamp in the extra session on the power play. Brady Skjel added a pair of helpers for the Rangers who received 33 saves from Henrik Lundqvist while Tuuka Rask stopped 25 shots for the Bruins.
Over is 4-0 in Blue Jackets last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and Blue Jackets are 9-1 in their last 10 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and Blue Jackets are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Atlantic. Bruins are 4-0 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and Bruins are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and under is 12-1 in Bruins last 13 vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings and under is 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings in Boston and Blue Jackets are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings in Boston.
These teams seem to light up the scoreboard when they faceoff so I’ll go with the over pending goalies…
