The Columbus Blue Jackets look to steal home ice advantage and rebound after their first loss of the playoffs as they take on the Boston Bruins on the road on Saturday.
The Blue Jackets had plenty of time to rest and get healthy for their second round matchup but they didn’t have the luxury of being able to game plan as the Bruins and Leafs went to a deciding Game 7 and their potential opponents are complete opposites. The Jackets spoiled a third period lead and fell in overtime to open the series against the Bruins but will be out for a rebound here as they can steal home ice advantage and head back to Ohio with a 1-1 split. Columbus is 7-1 in their last 8 road games and 5-1 in their last 6 games against the Atlantic division but they have had their struggles in Boston as they are just 1-4 in their last 5 contests and the home team is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings overall. Sergei Bobrovsky will need to be strong once again in this spot if he is going to lead the Blue Jackets to the road upset on Saturday.
The Bruins meanwhile outlasted the Maple Leafs in a 7-game thriller and were suspect to a let down in their series opener but they weathered the storm and pulled out a 3-2 overtime win on the back of Charlie Coyle. Boston should be a little fresher in this one as they have their legs back and are a bit more familiar now with the way Columbus plays and that could be terrible news for the visitors as the Bruins are now the odds on favorite to win the Stanley Cup. Boston is 17-7 in their last 24 games following a win and are 15-7 in their last 22 meetings against the Blue Jackets and while this figures to be a low scoring series look for the role players to determine the final score line tonight.
The Jackets are 6-2 in their last 8 Saturday games and 6-1 in their last 7 overall while the Bruins are 4-1 in their last 5 against the Eastern Conference and have hit the Under in just 2 of their last 9 matchups with Columbus. The Bruins are the better team here and while you can’t count out Columbus I just don’t see them having enough to get it done until they get home.
