The Line: Boston Bruins -205 / Detroit Red Wings +193 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Boston Bruins in a Saturday NHL matchup.
The Detroit Red Wings need to shore up their numbers at both ends of the ice in order to move up the Atlantic standings. Detroit saw their opportunity at a three game winning streak go by the wayside in a 4-3 defeat at the Philadelphia Flyers. The Red Wings received scoring from Mike Green, Martin Frk and Gustav Nyquist while Dylan Larkin added a pair of helpers. Jimmy Howard absorbed the loss with 27 saves.
The balanced Philadelphia attack saw Dale Weise, Wayne Simmonds and Robert Hagg while Sean Couturier tallied the game winner in the third. Claude Giroux logged three helpers to make the 25 save performance of Brian Elliott a winner.
The Boston Bruins are third in the Atlantic and need a few wins to move up the standings. Boston might be on their way to a hot streak after logging win number three in a row after downing the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday night. This was all defense until the third period where both offenses finally broke through.
Torey Krug gave the Bruins a 1-0 advantage on an unassisted tally at 8:16 with Winnipeg answering just 57 seconds later on a Patrik Laine marker. Bryan Little scored in the shootout for the Jets with David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy scoring for Boston. Tuukka Rask made 37 stops for the Bruins while Connor Hellebuyck recorded 32 saves.
Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 Saturday games and Red Wings are 1-8 in their last 9 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and Red Wings are 1-4 in their last 5 road games. Under is 5-0 in Bruins last 5 vs. Atlantic and Bruins are 5-0 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and Bruins are 8-2 in their last 10 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. Red Wings are 0-8 in the last 8 meetings in Boston and over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings in Boston and Red Wings are 3-15 in the last 18 meetings.
The Bruins are looking good right now and have been solid in this matchup so I’m looking at Boston…
