The Bruins look to rebound after a tough loss at MSG last night as they return home to face off against the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers head into Boston on Thursday night looking for a pivotal victory against their division rivals and with a victory they can move into first place in the Atlantic division and put themselves in the driver’s seat as the season winds down. Florida has had a nice run this season and deserve as much of a shot as any in the Eastern Conference to compete for the Stanley Cup as they have a nice balance of offensive scoring and one of the better blue lines in hockey that is anchored by Roberto Luongo who brings playoff experience to the Florida crease. The Cats are 18-14-4 on the road this season but will have the edge in goal here as Luongo is expected ot face off against Jonas Gustavsson who had to come in for Tuukka Rask after 20 minutes last night after he fell ill.
The Bruins head into this contest sitting in third place in the division and while they still have an opportunity to claim the title and home ice through the first two rounds they could be better off taking to the road as they seem to play better away from home this season. Boston is 39-27-8 this season but of those victories only 16 have come at the TD Garden which isn’t a terrible number but is definitely a bit of a knock on Boston’s game as they can’t seem to find as much consistency at home. Boston is likely going to get a pretty chalk line here as the home side but in a back to back coming off a tough game against the Rangers and their backup goalie slated to start I think this game has to favour the Cats who continue to get knocked by the oddsmakers.
