The Boston Bruins take the ice with the New York Islanders in a Thursday NHL tilt.
The New York Islanders dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Washington on Monday that prevented a third straight win. Valtteri Filppula scored just 36 seconds in to the first period but that’s all the offense could produce with Thomas Griess allowing three goals on 23 shots to get the loss for the Islanders.
Tom Wilson topped the Capitals with a goal in the first and a third period power play tally while Nic Dowd and Alex Ovechkin also found the back of the net. Wilson also had an assist and Nicklas Backstrom added three helpers to make Braden Holtby and his 32 saves a winning effort for the Capitals.
The Boston Bruins saw a modest two game winning streak end in a 4-2 defeat at Toronto on Monday. David Pastrnak provided the scoring for the Bruins in the second period with Brad Marchand and Torey Krug assisting on both. Jaroslav Halak absorbed the loss for Boston with three goals given up on 30 shots.
The balanced Maple Leafs saw Travis Dermott, Igor Ozhiganov, Josh Leivo and Zach Hyman all light the lamp. Mitch Marner logged a pair of assists and Frederik Andersen recorded 38 saves to get the win for Toronto.
