The Boston Bruins look to shake out of a disappointing slump as they welcome the San Jose Sharks to the Garden on Thursday night.
The San Jose Sharks look for a big road win as they head into Boston to face off with the Bruins as both teams look for a boost heading into the weekend. The Sharks have dominated the Eastern Conference of late as they have won 13 of their last 16 games against the East and they have beaten up on teams with a losing record, and while the Bruins are better than their mark indicates they have struggled of late and need a statement win of their own in order to get back in the mix in the Atlantic division. The Sharks are an impressive 20-8 in their last 28 games against the Atlantic division and in a goaltending show down that is likely to feature Martin Jones and Tuukka Rask you have to think that San Jose has more than a good chance to hget the victory in this one.
The Bruins meanwhile begin life without departed head coach Claude Julien who served as the Bruins bench boss for the last 10 seasons but he was let go earlier this week amidst a loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in which they gave up six goals. Boston has fallen out of the top three in the Atlantic division and need to get out of this rut if they’re going to keep pace with the Canadiens, Senators, and Maple Leafs who currently occupy the three automatic berths respectively. Boston has lost six of their last seven games after scoring five goals in their previous outing but after firing their coach who took the brunt of a disappointing stretch that ultimately falls on the players, the Bruins should be fired up for a big effort here.
The Sharks are 4-1 in their last five road games and 8-2 in their last 10 against a team with a losing record while the Bruins are 7-19 in their last 26 against the Pacific and 2-7 in their last nine against the Western Conference. Normally I like taking a team after they fire their coach but the Bruins have bigger issues than Julien and I like San Jose to get it done on the road.
