The Tampa Bay Lightning look to make a statement in their regular season finale as they face off against the Boston Bruins on Saturday night.
The Bolts have been the league’s best team all season long and locked up the President’s Trophy in record time and will head into the playoffs as the odds on favorite to win the Eastern Conference and Stanley Cup. However, one of their biggest threats to win the Cup lies within their division as the Boston Bruins have been very consistent this season and possess a real threat to unseat the Lightning in the Atlantic division bracket, so surely this game could have an impact on the psyche heading into the playoffs. Tampa Bay has dominated this series though as they are 6-1 in their last 7 meetings but history is on Boston’s side when playing at home against the Lightning as they have a staggering 9-30-3 record on home ice against the Bolts. Tampa is a slight dog in this spot but things could change in a hurry as money has come in on the Bolts and it could reverse course as we approach puck drop.
The Bruins meanwhile have been one of the league’s top groups as well this season and if not for an historic run by the Lightning this season they could very well have jumped into the race for top spot in the Eastern Conference. Boston is fuelled by their top line that includes Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, and Brad Marchand but they have a ton of depth and pose a threat to anyone in the Eastern Conference, though things will be tough for them as they will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the opening round before a potential show down with the Lightning pending they get through the first round as well.
The home team is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two sides and the under is 8-2-3 in the last 13 meetings and that is where we will go here. Both goalies have been excellent and this should be tightly contested to the final whistle with perhaps a lean to an overtime prop play as well.
