The Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins complete their home and home set on Saturday in Boston after the Leafs scored an overtime win in the first leg on Friday in Toronto.
The Maple Leafs scored a late goal with an extra attacker in the third period of last night’s thriller between these two sides and added the overtime winner from veteran Patrick Marleau and they are out for a more convincing effort in this one as they head into enemy territory on Saturday night. Toronto has been without Auston Matthews for a few games and he is likely to miss this one as well as he is currently dealing with an injury which might sway the line here as Boston needs a big win and the Leafs might be short handed once again without one of the league’s most dynamic young players. Curtis McIllhinney is expected to get the start here as he will face off against Tuukka Rask who will be out for another shot at the team who drafted him and traded him away for a bag of pucks.
The Bruins meanwhile let one slip away last night as they held the lead and dictated most of the game well into the third period but late goals from James van Riemsdyk and Patrick Marleau took a point off the board from the B’s who will be frustrated for sure heading into tonight’s game. Boston is a pretty thin group up front beyond their top line and that is a huge concern for them heading into the weekend as the Leafs have a ton of guys who can score and if this one turns into a shootout I think it favours the Leafs for the second straight evening.
The Leafs are 5-2 in their last seven against the Atlantic and 1-4 in their last five road games while the Bruins are 1-5 in their last six against the Atlantic and winless in their last five against the East. Boston suffered a tough beat last night but they get it back here with the edge in the crease and another night without Matthews for the Buds isn’t ideal.
