The Capitals received a pair of goals from Lars Eller with the second coming with 3:21 left in regulation to break a 3-3 tie. Taylor Chorney and Alex Chiasson also lit the lamp while John Carlson and Chandler Stephenson added a pair of assists each to lift Caps goalie Braden Holtby and his 36 stops to the win.
The Islanders offense saw scoring from John Tavares and Anders Lee on the power play with Lee scoring his second at 7:00 of the third. Josh Bailey posted two helpers but it wasn’t enough to save New York with Jaroslav Halak giving up four goals on 19 shots.
The Boston Bruins will be at home for the 6th time in seven contests when the Washington Capitals pay a visit. Boston squeezed by the Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 on Thursday night to even the season series 1-1.
This was a defensive struggle from the opening faceoff with a scoreless first period. Riley Nash opened the scoring for the Bruins at 3:24 of the second with the Golden Knights getting the equalizer at 9:34 while Sean Kuraly scored the game winner at 9:53 of the third.
Torey Krug posted two helpers for Boston and Tuuka Rask made meager support hold up with a 28 save performance. Maxime Legace fell to 0-3 with both goals given up on 28 shots.
