The Washington Capitals look to stay red hot and claim their 10th win in 11 tries as they head into Boston to take on the Bruins.
The Capitals claimed their second straight President’s Trophy with a 2-0 win over the New York Rangers in their last outing and they will be out for another win as they take on a Bruins side that has clinched a playoff spot and is getting set for first round matchup that could very well end up being against Washington. The Caps have been one of the best regular season teams for the last 10 years and have put up some historic figures in that stretch but they will always be considered a flop when it comes to the playoffs if they can’t win a Cup and this could very well be another example of that this year.
The Bruins meanwhile are starting to heat up and would love to avoid the Capitals in the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, and the best way to do so would be to get a victory here on home ice. Boston is 23-16-1 at home this season but the Caps have been very good both at home and on the road as they are 22-12-6 outside of the Verizon Center this season and are in a good spot here as they will look to make a statement against a potential playoff opponent. However, the Caps could sit some players in their final two games to get set for the postseason so they could find themselves short handed on the road here against a Bruins team looking for a big win.
The Caps are 5-1 in their last six road games and 19-7 in their last 26 against a team with a winning record while the Bruins are 6-1 in their last seven overall and 4-1 in their last five home games. Washington is the better team but Boston is desperate and I think they get a huge win at home here to set up a first round matchup with Ottawa.
