The Arizona Coyotes look for a rare road victory as they head into Buffalo to take on the Sabres on Thursday evening.
The Coyotes look to pull off the upset on the road on Thursday night as they skate into Buffalo to take on the Sabres who have lost four games in a row and are seeing their slim chances at the playoffs diminishing with each passing game. Arizona hasn’t had a great season and they are 14-46 in their last 60 road games and against team like Buffalo who has played pretty well at home this season it doesn’t look like those trends will get any better as the Sabres are the deeper team and still have something to play for. Arizona is likely to send Mike Smith to the crease here as he has been the work horse in the crease as he will face off against Robin Lehner who has had a pretty decent season in his own right and gives Buffalo a great chance to win here.
The Sabres meanwhile have picked a tough time to go on a slump as they had been a dark horse to jump into a wild card spot but a four game slide has them playing catch up heading into the weekend. Buffalo does have a pretty solid roster and will be a tough team to play against in the coming seasons but right now they are fighting for each and every point they earn in the standings and that includes teams that are considered among the league’s worst. Buffalo is 4-1 in their last five games when playing on one day’s rest but they are 13-49 in their last 62 Thursday games and have struggled to win against teams with a losing record.
The Coyotes are 22-47 in their last 69 against the Eastern Conference and 6-2 in their last eight on one day’s rest while the Sabres are 0-4 in their last four against the West and 6-16 in their last 22 when their opponent scores two or less in their previous game. Arizona is in tough here and the odds makers know it and while Buffalo shouldn’t be a big favourite against anyone right now they are the only play here.
