The Sabres and Blue Jackets meet up in Buffalo on Friday in the lone game of the night on the ice.
The Columbus Blue Jackets head into Buffalo on Friday looking to build on their 5-1 thrashing of the Toronto Maple Leafs and while they have had a very underwhelming season they could start to build some positive momentum into the off season with three straight wins to finish. Columbus does have a decent roster but they will have to bring in some pieces in the off season and that includes a top end prospect in the NHL draft and with the second worst record in the Eastern Conference they will certainly be in the running for a top end pick. The Jackets are 15-23-2 on the road this season and will send Sergei Bobrovsky to the crease as he will face off against Chad Johnson who continues to see a decent amount of playing time this season.
The Sabres meanwhile had varying expectations coming into the season as some expected they would jump right back into the playoff mix, while others anticipated another tough year but with some promise to look forward to and that is exactly what we have seen. The Sabres have a ton of young talent that will make them a contender for many years to come and we have seen some flashes of brilliance from them already, and with a full season of Robin Lehner they could very well jump back into the playoff picture as early as next year. Buffalo is a good team and while they are currently at the same level as the Blue Jackets I think they are trending forward while their opponents are not. Take Buffalo tonight
