The Line: Buffalo Sabres +100 / Florida Panthers -110 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Florida Panthers visit the Buffalo Sabres in a Thursday night NHL matchup.
The Florida Panthers need a strong second half to get themselves back in to the postseason picture. Florida began the second half on the right foot with a 4-1 victory at the New York Islanders. The big offense of the Islanders received a third period tally from Adam Pelech on assists from Josh Bailey and Jason Chimera.
The balanced Panthers offense saw four different players score with Mike Matheson, Evgenii Dadonov, Keith Yandle and Jonathan Huberdeau lighting the lamp. Vincent Trocheck added a pair of helpers for Florida and Harri Sateri picked up his first win with 32 stops. Jaroslav Halak absorbed the loss for New York with 36 saves.
The Buffalo Sabres have been thrust in to the role of spoiler with struggles at both ends of the ice taking a toll. Buffalo had been playing their best hockey of the year with three straight wins before opening the second half of 2017-18 with a 3-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils where Jake McCabe scored the lone goal in the third.
New Jersey received goals off the sticks of Miles Wood and Taylor Hall before Kyle Palmieri scored on the empty net with only six seconds remaining. Palmieri also had an assist to make the 27 save effort of Keith Kinkaid a winner while Robin Lehner recorded 25 stops in the loss.
Under is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400 and over is 6-1 in Panthers last 7 overall and under is 5-1 in Panthers last 6 vs. Atlantic. Under is 4-0 in Sabres last 4 overall and Sabres are 1-6 in their last 7 vs. Atlantic and Sabres are 1-4 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and Panthers are 13-4 in the last 17 meetings and Panthers are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Buffalo.
I know it might be hard to back either squad but I believe the Panthers success in this matchup continues here…
