The Montreal Canadiens return to action on Sunday in Buffalo less than 24 hours after an improbable comeback against the Senators gave them two huge points.
The Canadiens were in the midst of a little slump which non-coincidentally happened after star goaltender Carey Price was ruled out of action for two weeks and while the return of Price last night wasn’t what he expected it certainly gave the team some life. Montreal found themselves in a three goal hole late in the third period but mounted a comeback for the ages by knotting the game up at four before ultimately scoring the game winner in overtime. The Habs don’t have much time to celebrate and reflect as they play a pivotal game against the Sabres on Sunday who despite sitting in the league basement have played the Canadiens tough this season and every season for that matter. Petr Budaj gets the call in the crease as he goes up against Michal Neuvirth.
The Sabres have had a disappointing campaign no question but with nothing to lose for the rest of the season they can play without as much pressure and hesitation and as such embrace the spoiler role and upset teams looking to get into the postseason. Buffalo as mentioned play their former Northeast division rivals very tough and they’d like to take advantage of a Canadiens team playing an overtime game last night and having to travel to upstate New York overnight. Buffalo has made plenty of moves during the season with very few of them working out in their favour and one of those players will return tonight as long time Sabres forward Thomas Vanek will get a shot at one of his former teams here tonight. The line isn’t out yet for this game but I expect the Canadiens will be favoured as they should but Budaj hasn’t given us much to feel confident about of late and I think we see a high scoring game as a result. Take the over in this one.
