The Line: Buffalo Sabres +100 / Montreal Canadiens -110 --- Over/Under: 5.5
NHL action comes to the KeyBank Center where the Buffalo Sabres host the Montreal Canadiens.
The Montreal Canadiens have just one win in almost three weeks which emphasizes their year long struggles. Montreal comes in off of a 5-3 loss at the Penguins where Jonathan Drouin, Nikita Scherbak and Jacob De La Rose scored for the Habs and Carey Price gave up five goals on 39 shots.
The explosive Penguins attack produced scoring from Evgeni Malkin, Patric Hornqvist, Sidney Crosby, Derick Brassard and Jake Guentzel. Guentzel and Phil Kessel gave Pittsburgh two helpers each and Casey DeSmith picked up the win with 27 saves.
The struggling Buffalo Sabres have been out of postseason contention for some time and things haven’t be good lately with team suffering through losses in four of five. Buffalo comes off of a 4-1 defeat to the visiting Arizona Coyotes where Jordan Nolan scored and Chad Johnson allowed two goals on 15 shots before Linus Ullmark stopped 12-13 shots in relief.
The Coyotes offense came off the sticks of Dylan Strome and Derek Stepan on first period power plays with Richard Panik scoring in the third before Max Domi scored on the empty net with ten seconds remaining. Clayton Keller added a pair of helpers for Arizona and Antti Raanta got the win with 29 saves.
Canadiens are 1-8 in their last 9 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game and Canadiens are 2-12 in their last 14 vs. Atlantic and under is 10-2-1 in Canadiens last 13 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game. Sabres are 1-9 in their last 10 games playing on 1 days rest and Sabres are 1-7 in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and under is 6-1 in Sabres last 7 vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Under is 2-0-2 in the last 4 meetings in Buffalo and Canadiens are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
I always say don’t be surprised at the outcome of two struggling teams which is the definition of this matchup…
