New York Islanders (36-29-12) at Buffalo Sabres (32-33-12)
|Date & Time||Sunday April 2, 2017, 3:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Buffalo Sabres -125 / New York Islanders +113 --- Over/Under: 5
The Buffalo Sabres take the ice with the New York Islanders in an NHL hockey bout on Sunday.
After getting blitzed by the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3, the New York Islanders needed a win to get their confidence back and to remain in the postseason picture. The Islanders did just that in a 2-1 victory versus the visiting New Jersey Devils on Friday. The win was costly with captain John Tavares being helped off the ice with what looks like a left leg injury. Anders Lee gave the NYI a 1-0 lead with a power play tally in the first with Anthony Beauvillier also lighting the lamp to make a winner of Jaroslav Halak and his 26 stops that kept the Islanders four points behind the Boston Bruins for the second Wild Card. The slumping Devils saw Adam Henrique score with Keith Kincaid logging 36 stops as the team fell to 2-13-4 in their last 19 contests.
The Buffalo Sabres have shown improvement this season but they are going to miss the playoffs so more improvement is needed. The Sabres did give the Columbus Blue Jackets all they could handle in a 3-1 defeat at Columbus on Tuesday night. Evan Rodrigues scored the lone goal for Buffalo which wasn’t enough against the stingy Blue Jackets while Anders Nilsson mustered 26 saves in a losing effort. The CBJ are heading to the postseason but haven’t been lighting up the scoreboard so the team has to get the offensive kinks worked out soon with the playoffs almost here. The Blue Jackets received scoring from Kyle Quincey, Cam Atkinson and Brandon Saad on the open net with Sergei Bobrovsky coming through with a monster 41 save performance.
The Islanders are 0-5 in their last 5 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation and the over is 7-1 in Islanders last 8 Sunday games while the Islanders are 1-5 in their last 6 games playing on 1 days rest. The over is 9-1-3 in Sabres last 13 games playing on 3 or more days rest and the over is 4-1 in Sabres last 5 home games while the under is 4-1 in Sabres last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. The under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Buffalo and the under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
The under has been the strongest bet between Buffalo and the Islanders but this isn’t an easy game for picking a side so for now I’ll stick with the under pending goalies…
