The San Jose Sharks take the ice at the Buffalo Sabres in an NHL Saturday matchup.
The San Jose Sharks continue their east coast road swing with a visit at the Buffalo Sabres. San Jose could not muster much offense Thursday night in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Boston Bruins.
Boston called up Danton Heinen from the minors earlier on Thursday and he rewarded the Bruins with his first two career goals. That was enough support for Anton Khudobin who stopped 36 shots to up his record to 3-0-1.
The Sharks lone tally came off the stick of Joe Thornton on a second period power play that temporarily tied the score 1-1. Martin Jones absorbed the loss for San Jose with 31 saves that dropped him to 4-3.
The Buffalo Sabres need a winning streak to keep their heads above water and it needs to begin with the visiting San Jose Sharks on Saturday. Buffalo saw a modest two game winning streak com to an end in a 5-1 defeat at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night.
The Columbus offense was just too much with Oliver Bjorkstrand scoring on the power play in the first before the game got out of hand in the second with Seth Jones, Nick Foligno and Matt Calvert lighting the lamp. Josh Anderson rounded out the Blue Jackets scoring with just 39 seconds remaining.
Seth Griffith tallied with 2:35 remaining in the third period for the Sabres only goal on assists from Jordan Nolan and Johan Larsson. Buffalo goalie Chad Johnson was 5-1 versus Columbus before allowing all five goals on 38 shots while Sergei Bobrovsky recorded 34 saves in helping end the Blue Jackets two game skid.
Sharks are 0-4 in their last 4 Saturday games and Sharks are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a losing record and Sharks are 5-1 in their last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Sabres are 0-4 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 3-0-1 in Sabres last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 5-1 in Sabres last 6 Saturday games. Sharks are 1-6 in the last 7 meetings in Buffalo and under is 4-1-2 in the last 7 meetings and Sharks are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings.
San Jose hasn’t found a groove and the Sabres are struggling so quality choices are limited in my view…
