The Toronto Maple Leafs look for their second win in as many games as they head into Buffalo to take on the Sabres on Thursday.
The Maple Leafs are coming off a big 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night and will head into Buffalo to face off against their Atlantic division rivals in what has become a pretty fierce, and competitive history over the years. Toronto got their best outing of the season from Nazem Kadri as he was a thorn in the side of Connor McDavid all night long and netted the overtime winner and was the game’s first star and he will look for an encore on the road against the Sabres. Toronto is likely to send Frederik Andersen to the crease here though could opt to send former Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth in a revenge spot but either way the Leafs will likely have to deal with Robin Lehner who has been good so far.
The Sabres meanwhile head into Thursday’s game looking to move to 5-3-1 on the season and continue their ascent up the Atlantic division standings but they have just a single win at home this season and will host a Leafs team that will have plenty of fans in the stands. Buffalo has played well against the Leafs over the last few seasons and would like to be at their absolute best in this one as they are quickly becoming a dark horse team in the East all without the services of sophomore superstar Jack Eichel.
The Leafs are 0-5 in their last five following a win and 16-38 in their last 54 overall while the Sabres are 21-44 in their last 65 home games and 27-55 in their last 82 games following a win. Both teams are playing better of late but I still think the Sabres are a step ahead of where the Leafs are right now and I expect the Sabres to come out swinging here.
