The Anaheim Ducks and the Calgary Flames meet in NHL action from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday night.
The Anaheim Ducks will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Wild in their last outing. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes before Jakob Silfverberg opened the scoring with the lone goal of the 2nd period for Anaheim. The 1-0 score line would hold through the rest of the 2nd and most of the 3rd period before Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler scored 1:43 apart to push the lead to 3-0 and Hampus Lindholm chipped in an empty net goal to make it 4-0. Ryan Miller got the win to improve to 6-2-1 this season after stopping all 31 shots he faced for his 1st shutout of the season.
The Calgary Flames will look to build on their current 3-game winning streak after a 4-2 triumph over the New York Islanders last time out. Mikael Backlund opened the scoring for Calgary 5:00 into the game before Travis Hamonic doubled the advantage in the latter stages of the opening frame. New York cut the deficit in half with the lone goal of the 2nd and tied the game 1:18 into the 3rd, but Calgary would take control from there as Austin Czarnik and Johnny Gaudreau would score :29 apart to give the Flames a 4-2 lead that Calgary would not relinquish. Mike Smith got the win to improve to 17-11-2 after stopping 17 of 19 shots faced in the winning effort.
Anaheim is 6-20 in their last 26 games overall and 1-6 in their last 7 road games while the under is 45-16-2 in their last 63 games following a win. Calgary is 8-2 in their last 10 home games and 8-3 in their last 11 games following a win while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 division games. Anaheim is 41-13 in the last 54 meetings between these two teams and 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Calgary.
The plus money is tempting considering how much success the Ducks have had in this matchup, however a lot of that success has come in Anaheim and a lot of it came when the Ducks were the much better team. Now, the scripts have flipped and the Ducks look like they’re going to have a lot of ping pong balls coming their way in the draft lottery, while Calgary continues to fight for the top spot in the Pacific division. Anaheim’s road record also leaves a lot to be desired, so while the price isn’t ideal, It’s Calgary or pass for me in this game.
