The Ducks look to reclaim their spot atop the Pacific division on Wednesday as they head into Calgary to battle against the pesky Flames.
Anaheim has been the class of the Western Conference for the majority of the season and while they relinquished their lead atop the league standings and in the Pacific division they are still very much a threat to win the Stanley Cup. The Ducks have resurrected a hockey market in California this season along with the Kings and Sharks as all three teams have been very successful and equally as exciting to watch in what has been a dominant effort from the Western Conference this year. The Ducks are a very physical team that can beat you with their two way approach but also have a strong goaltender in Jonas Hiller and a blue line that is one of the more underrated units in the league. They head into Calgary on Wednesday coming off a win but are just 4-4-2 in their last 10 games overall which has accounted for their slip in the league standings.
The Flames have had a tough go this season and won’t be going to the playoffs but they have played teams very well this season and never find themselves out of any game. They are a very pesky and hard working squad that has embraced the spoiler role and certainly has used that card on a number of occasions, especially of late. Calgary has a chance to thrive in that label once again as they take on an Anaheim team who is 32 points their inferior in the league table and one who on paper should have no trouble of discarding the home side. However, the Flames are a physical team as well and can match up against the Ducks who despite sitting very high in the league standings don’t have a ton of secondary scoring which could be their downfall come playoff time. I don’t think Calgary wins but I think it could be very close and I like this one to stay under the number as both goalies give their team a chance to win.
