The Flames look to continue their winning ways and keep climbing up the Pacific division standings as they welcome the Coyotes to town on Thursday.
The Arizona Coyotes have been one of the league’s bigger surprises this season as they head into action tonight sitting in a playoff spot and while many expected them to slide as the season wore on they continue to be a thorn in the side of many Western Conference contenders. The Coyotes sit in third place in the division heading into tonight but with the way the Pacific has gone this season they could very well be in last place by the end of next week. The six teams following the LA Kings in the division are separated by only five points and any swing in one direction or another could dictate who is in the playoffs and who is drafting first overall. Louis Domingue will go for the Coyotes while Karri Ramo is expected to start for the Flames.
The Flames have had a very interesting season as they are just a single game above the .500 mark and have an astounding -18 goal differential which is second to worst in the Western Conference yet they are holding on to a playoff spot. By comparison, all three teams in the basement of the Central would qualify over the Flames if it wasn’t a divisional parameter and while that is true in all sports it certainly rings true here as the Pacific just doesn’t have it this season outside of the Kings. Calgary has been playing better of late though and are pretty decent at home but I just don’t like the price and think these teams are a carbon copy of each other which gives us an edge with the value on the Coyotes.
