The Line: Arizona Coyotes +185 / Calgary Flames -225 -- Over/Under: 6
The Arizona Coyotes and Calgary Flames meet Monday in NHL action at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Arizona Coyotes could use a win after losing six of their last nine games. The Arizona Coyotes are averaging 2.6 goals per game and are scoring on 17.5 percent of their power play opportunities. Alex Galchenyuk leads Arizona with 13 goals, Clayton Keller has 27 assists and Oliver Ekman-Larsson has 129 shots on goal. Defensively, the Arizona Coyotes are allowing 2.9 goals per game and are killing 84.8 percent of their opponents power plays. Darcy Kuemper has given up 88 goals on 1,015 shots faced and Antti Raanta has allowed 33 goals on 351 shots. The Arizona Coyotes have allowed three or more goals in five of their last eight games.
The Calgary Flames could also use a win after losing five of their last seven games. The Calgary Flames are averaging 3.6 goals per game and are scoring on 22.4 percent of their power play opportunities. Johnny Gaudreau leads Calgary with 29 goals, Mark Giordano has 43 assists and Sean Monahan has 172 shots on goal. Defensively, the Calgary Flames are allowing 2.9 goals per game and are killing 79.2 percent of their opponents power plays. David Rittich has given up 82 goals on 923 shots faced and Mike Smith has allowed 84 goals on 770 shots. The Calgary Flames have allowed three or more goals in each of their last seven games.
The Coyotes are 42-86 in their last 128 games as a road underdog, 42-88 in their last 130 road games and 55-125 in their last 180 vs. a team with a winning record. The Flames are 6-2 in their last 8 home games, 6-2 in their last 8 games as a home favorite and 1-4 in their last 5 games as a favorite. The under is 3-1-1 in Coyotes last 5 overall. The over is 21-6-1 in Flames last 28 home games. The Coyotes are 4-12 in the last 16 meetings in Calgary and 3-9 in the last 12 meetings.
The Calgary Flames have beaten up on the Arizona Coyotes over the years, but they were also in better form than they are now. The Flames aren't playing well enough to deserve being this heavy of a favorite, especially when they've lost four of their last five games in the favorite role. The Arizona Coyotes have provided value at times this season as an underdog and I've said all year that they're a better team than their record incites. I'll take a shot with the Coyotes as a big underdog.
