The Line: Calgary Flames / Boston Bruins --- Over/Under: 5.5
NHL action comes to the Scotiabank Saddledome where the Calgary Flames host the Boston Bruins.
The Boston Bruins have been one of the best teams in the game as witnessed by their second place position in the Atlantic. However, even the best teams take one on the chin and it was the Bruins turn in a 6-1 defeat at Vancouver on Saturday. Boston trailed 5-0 before Tim Schaller scored in the third but Tuukka Rask allowed four goals on eight shots before Anton Khudobin came on to stop 13-15.
The Canucks offensive explosion featured a four goal burst in the opening period that put this in the win column. Loui Eriksson paced the Vancouver attack with a pair of goals with Daniel Sedin, Bo Harvat, Sven Baertschi and Nic Dowd. Derrick Pouiliot gave the Canucks a pair of helpers and Anders Nilsson recorded 44 saves to get the win.
The Calgary Flames have struggled at the defensive end of the ice the past few weeks capped off by a 6-3 loss to the visiting Florida Panthers on Saturday. Dougie Hamilton was the big gun for the Flames with a hat trick which wasn’t enough with David Rittich allowing four goals on 15 shots before Jon Gillies came on to stop 13-15 shots.
Mike Matheson topped the Panthers scoring assault with a pair of tallies with Vincent Trocheck, Evgenii Dadonov, Aleksander Bakov and Jared McCann joining the scoring column. Barkov also posted a pair of helpers to make the 30 save performance of Roberto Luongo a winner.
Bruins are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record and Bruins are 6-0 in their last 6 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game and Bruins are 9-0 in their last 9 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Over is 5-0 in Flames last 5 vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and over is 4-0 in Flames last 4 home games and over is 5-0 in Flames last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. Over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings and home team is 13-6-1 in the last 20 meetings.
Calgary is going to be a dangerous team going forward but I’ll back the consistency of the Bruins…
