Thursday night NHL comes to the Scotiabank Saddledome where the Calgary Flames host the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue their west cost road swing with a stop at the Calgary Flames on Thursday. Carolina will be shooting for back to back victories after upending the Edmonton Oilers 5-3 on Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes had been struggling at the offensive end but those struggles were gone for a night with Teuvo Teravainen leading the way with a pair of tallies followed by Jordan Staal, Jacob Slavin and Elias Lindholm. The offensive fireworks made life easier for Cam Ward who came up with a monster 48 saves.

The Edmonton offense came off the sticks of Ryan Strome, Mark Letestu and Milan Lucic but backup netminder Laurent Brossoit struggled with all five goals given up on just 21 shots as the Oilers fell to 1-4.

The Calgary Flames are looking to add to their strong start when the Carolina Hurricanes come to town. Calgary bounced from a bad loss to Ottawa with a complete 5-2 rout of the Vancouver Canucks on the road.

The Flames duo of Dougie Hamilton and Johnny Gaudreau scored two goals apiece with Travis Harmonic joining the scoring column with Gaudreau also logging a helper. Mike Smith gave the Flames a solid effort in the nets with 27 saves to post the victory.

Brock Boeser and Derek Dorsett supplied the offense for the Canucks while netminder Jacob Markstrom had some problems keeping the puck in front of him with all five goals allowed on 27 shots to absorb the loss.

Under is 3-0-1 in Hurricanes last 4 Thursday games and over is 4-0 in Hurricanes last 4 vs. a team with a winning record and under is 3-0-1 in Hurricanes last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game. Over is 5-0-2 in Flames last 7 vs. Eastern Conference and under is 3-0-3 in Flames last 6 Thursday games and under is 2-0-2 in Flames last 4 games playing on 3 or more days rest. Hurricanes are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Calgary and home team is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings and under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings.

The Flames have done well in this matchup on home ice but it must be noted that neither see each other that often…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
