The Calgary Flames look to improve their disappointing home record as they welcome in the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.
The Blackhawks are off to a very good start to the season and look like they are prime for another deep playoff push as they have the offense led by Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane and a blue line anchored by Duncan Keith who all have the confidence of playing with Corey Crawford behind them. Chicago is a tough out regardless of where they are playing but so far they are just 3-3 on the road this season and are coming off a decisive loss to the Winnipeg Jets, a game that Toews surely would like to have back with his family and friends in attendance. Crawford is expected to get the start for the Hawks as he will likely face off against Brian Elliott.
The Flames meanwhile have done a nice job rebounding from an ugly start to the season but are still under the .500 mark and need to get back in the win column in this one against a very good Blackhawks side. The Flames are 2-5 in their last seven home games and 5-11 in their last 16 games following a win so they could be in tough against a Chicago side that has won eight of their last 10 games and have looked like Cup contenders through the first month of the season.
The Hawks are 4-1 in their last five after scoring two goals or less in their previous game and 6-1 in their last seven against the Western Conference while the Flames are 2-5 in their last seven Friday games and 20-42 in their last 62 in a 3-4 situation. Chicago is the play here as they are the better team and Calgary always struggles to string victories together.
