Thursday NHL action features the Calgary Flames hosting the Colorado Avalanche.

The Colorado Avalanche look to get back in the win column after a 3-2 defeat at Minnesota on Saturday. Mark Barberio scored the first goal of the game in the first and Gabriel Landeskog lit the lamp with 42 seconds remaining. Semyon Varlamov was charged with three goals on 27 shots to get the loss for the Avs.

Mikael Grandlund, Eric Staal and Jonas Brodin provided the Minnesota offense with scoring. Staal also posted an assist and Devan Dubnyk sopped 30 shots for the Wild to up his record to 5-1-2.

The Calgary Flames are gunning for a third straight win after downing Buffalo 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday. Buffalo scored at the 6:30 mark of the first with Jack Eichel lighting the lamp off an assist from Jason Pominville. Carter Hutton recorded 36 stops for the Sabres to get a point.

The Flames offense was silent until Matthew Tkachuk found the back of the net with just 56 seconds remaining in the third while Johnny Gaudreau tallied the winner an in OT. Sean Monahan provided Calgary with a pair of assists David Rittich stopped 28 shots to get the win.

Under is 6-0 in Avalanche last 6 vs. Western Conference and over is 5-1 in Avalanche last 6 Thursday games and Avalanche are 1-5 in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. Over is 6-0 in Flames last 6 home games and Flames are 0-4 in their last 4 Thursday games and under is 3-0-1 in Flames last 4 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation. Avalanche are 1-6 in the last 7 meetings and Avalanche are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Calgary.

The Flames at home have been a solid choice in this matchup and I lean their way pending goalies…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
