The Avalanche look to build on their road win in Vancouver on Wednesday night as they continue their road trip in Calgary on Friday.
The Colorado Avalanche got a pivotal road win against the Vancouver Canucks in their last outing and pulled a point ahead of the Minnesota Wild for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference heading into tonight’s game. The Avs have been up and down this season and are only five games above the .500 mark but pose a very serious threat of getting into the postseason where with their lineup there is no telling just how far they can go. The Avs have a nice balance of young talent and veteran leadership and against a Flames side that has been playing well of late but will miss out on the playoffs they will need their offensive depth to show up. Tonight marks another return to Calgary for long time and beloved forward Jarome Iginla who is now with Colorado and you can bet his new side will be fired up to play for him in this spot.
The Flames meanwhile look to build on their 4-1 victory against the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night but will face a much stiffer test in this one as they take on an Avalanche team looking to inch closer to a playoff berth. Calgary as mentioned has been very good at home this season as they are 20-15-2 at the Saddledome and have turned up the heat of late in front of their home fans but the Avs will look to cool them off significantly with another statement victory in this one. While Calgary will look to finish the season with some forward momentum heading into next year where they will be a team to watch in the Pacific division, I just don’t see the matchup favouring them here as the Avs are just as good if not better and need the victory way more.
