The Flames look to build on their impressive home ice win over the Hurricanes on Wednesday as they welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to town on Friday night.
The Blue Jackets play their third game in four nights on Friday after back to back games in Western Canada against the Oilers and Canucks and finish their road swing in Calgary tonight against a Flames side looking to make up ground in the Pacific. Columbus gave it all they had last night against the Canucks in a 2-1 shootout loss and while they weren’t able to get John Tortorella a win against his old team they did manage a point and rallied back after getting trounced by the Oilers earlier in the week. Columbus does have its issues though and part of that is depth in goal and with Sergei Bobrovsky on the shelf it makes it tough to win games and with Forsberg going tonight I just don’t see how the Jackets match up against the Flames.
The Flames meanwhile are coming off that big win against the Hurricanes but thanks to Edmonton’s two game winning streak they are tied with the Oilers in the Pacific division basement and need to go on a second half run to get into the postseason. Calgary has typically been a tough team to play at home and this season they are 15-10 when playing at the Saddledome and welcome a Blue jackets side that has struggled all season but especially so on the road as 18 of their 28 losses have come away from home. Anton Forsberg is likely to get the call for Columbus while the Flames will counter with Karri Ramo who is looking to get above .500 with a victory and while this game could be tight in terms of goals scored I do think the home side comes away with the win.
