The Detroit Red Wings battle the Calgary Flames in a Thursday night NHL tilt.

The Detroit Red Wings will be on the road for the third straight game with a stop to face the Calgary Flames on Thursday. Detroit looks to get another win after defeating Vancouver 3-2 for their 4th win in five games on Monday night.

The Red Wings opened the scoring at 4:02 of the first on a goal from Darren Helms before doubling the advantage on a power play tally from Martin Frk.  The Canucks finally scored on Daniel Sedin’s goal at 7:16 of the third and 2:14 later with Michael Zotto evening the score. Tomas Tater scored the game winner with 1:14 remaining to spare Detroit of overtime and secure two points.

The Red Wings received 26 saves from Jimmy Howard who improved to 6-5-0 with the victory. Jacob Markstrom absorbed the loss for Vancouver with all three goals given up on 29 shots that dropped his record to  4-4-2.

The Calgary Flames take the ice for their 6th straight home game when the Detroit Red Wings come to town on Thursday. Calgary is aiming to stay hot after a 5-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks put an end to a three game winning streak.

The Canucks attack featured scoring from Sam Gagner, Thomas Vanek and Derek Dorsett for a 3-3 tie in the third before Bo Horvat’s power play tally gave Vancouver a 4-3 lead followed by a Henrik Sedin goal just 38 seconds later. Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves for Vancouver to up his record to 5-4-2.

The Flames received power play goals off the sticks of Dougie Hamilton in the first and Johnny Gaudreau in the second. Michael Ferland scored an unassisted shorthanded with only 1:40 left in the second while Mike Smith absorbed the loss for Calgary with all five goals allowed on 21 shots.

Under is 4-0 in Red Wings last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and under is 6-0 in Red Wings last 6 road games and under is 7-1 in Red Wings last 8 overall. Under is 7-1-3 in Flames last 11 Thursday games and Flames are 1-4 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest and over is 20-5-3 in Flames last 28 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Red Wings are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and under is 18-7-5 in the last 30 meetings in Calgary.

Both teams come in to this game playing well so something has to give. Both generally play well at the defensive end when they meet so I lead to the under pending goalie confirmation…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
