The Calgary Flames take the ice for their 6th straight home game when the Detroit Red Wings come to town on Thursday. Calgary is aiming to stay hot after a 5-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks put an end to a three game winning streak.
The Canucks attack featured scoring from Sam Gagner, Thomas Vanek and Derek Dorsett for a 3-3 tie in the third before Bo Horvat’s power play tally gave Vancouver a 4-3 lead followed by a Henrik Sedin goal just 38 seconds later. Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves for Vancouver to up his record to 5-4-2.
The Flames received power play goals off the sticks of Dougie Hamilton in the first and Johnny Gaudreau in the second. Michael Ferland scored an unassisted shorthanded with only 1:40 left in the second while Mike Smith absorbed the loss for Calgary with all five goals allowed on 21 shots.
