The Edmonton Oilers go on the road to oppose the Calgary Flames in Tuesday NHL action.
The Edmonton Oilers postseason hopes are on hold for another year but the team has pieced together a nice three game winning streak following a 4-1 victory versus the visiting Minnesota where Charlie Coyle scored for the Wild in the third with Devan Dubnyk allowing three goals on 27 shots to get the loss.
Connor McDavid topped the Oilers scoring charge with a pair of second period goals with Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also lighting the lamp. McDavid and Nuggent-Hopkins added assists and Edmonton received 32 saves from Cam Talbot.
The Calgary Flames postseason drive has been slowed greatly the past few weeks with neither end of the ice able to come up big with losses in five of seven. Calgary saw a shot at a three game winning streak dashed in a 5-2 loss to the visiting New York Islanders where Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano scored while Mike Smith gave up four goals on 26 shots.
Anders Lee gave the Islanders offense with a pair of tallies with Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk and Jordan Eberle also joining the scoring column. Boychuk, Casey Cizkas and John Tavares gave New York two assists each to make the monster 50 save effort of Christopher Gibson a winner.
Over is 4-0 in Oilers last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 4-0 in Oilers last 4 vs. Pacific and over is 3-0-1 in Oilers last 4 road games. Over is 4-0 in Flames last 4 vs. Pacific and over is 6-0 in Flames last 6 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 7-1 in Flames last 8 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Oilers are 7-0 in the last 7 meetings and Oilers are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Calgary and over is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings in Calgary.
Scoring seems to be the name of the game when these teams take the ice which is the way I’m going pending goalies…
