The Los Angeles Kings head to Calgary on Saturday for a game against the Flames in a matchup of two teams from the Pacific Division. In their last game, the Kings were defeated by the Washington Capitals by the score of 3-1. The Kings lone goal was scored by Blake Lizotte at the 3:20 mark of the 3rd period and was unassisted. Jonathan Quick took the loss in net for the Kings as he allowed 2 goals on 21 of the Capitals shots on the night.
After the loss against Washington, Los Angeles is now 11-16-2 on the season and are currently in 8th place in the Pacific Division. Anze Kopitar has been the leader offensively for the Kings all season as he leads the team in points with 27. Kopitar also leads Los Angeles in goals with 10, 3 coming on the power play and in assists with 17. Goalie Jonathan Quick has a record of 7-11-1 with a goals against average of 3.29. The Kings other goalie is Jack Campbell who has a record of 4-5-1 with a goals against average of 2.88. Los Angeles comes into Saturday’s game with a clean bill of health as they do not have anyone listed on their injury report.
The Calgary Flames welcome the Los Angeles Kings to town on Saturday after winning their last game against the Buffalo Sabres by the score of 4-3. The Flames received goals from Johnny Gaudreau, Tobias Rieder, Sean Monahan and Milan Lucic in the win against the Sabres. Flames goalie David Rittich got the win in net for the Flames as he recorded 26 saves on 29 of Buffalo’s shots.
After the win against the Sabres, the Flames are 14-12-4 and are currently in a 4th place tie in the Pacific Division. The Flames offense is led in points by Matthew Tkachuk who has tallied 25 points so far on the season. Elias Lindholm leads the Flames in goals on the year with 14, with 5 coming while on the power play. Sean Monahan leads the Flames in assists with 16 on the season, with 6 coming while on the power play. Calgary goalie David Rittich is 13-7-4 on the year with 2 shutouts and a 2.69 goals against average. Backup goalie Cam Talbot is 1-5-0 so far this season with a goals against average of 3.23. The Flames come into Saturday’s game with just 1 player listed on their injury report as Austin Czarnik is on injured reserve.
Los Angeles has scored 2.52 goals per game this season while allowing 3.31 goals per game. Calgary has scored 2.47 goals per game this year while allowing 2.97 goals per game. In their last 5 games, Los Angeles is 2-3 while Calgary is 4-1. The Kings have won both game between these two teams so far this season by the score of 4-1 in Los Angeles and 4-3 in overtime in a game played in Calgary. I believe Calgary will take this one as I don’t believe the Kings will beat them for a third time this year. The Flames haven’t scored as much as the Kings, but their defensive numbers are much better than what Los Angeles has to offer. I am also taking the Flames because they are 8-3-2 at home this season while the Kings are 2-10-1 when playing on the road. Calgary wins 4-2 and on the over.
