The New York Islanders host the New York Rangers in a Metropolitan NHL matchup.
The New York Rangers are looking for their third consecutive victory after downing visiting Vancouver 2-1 on Monday. The Canucks took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Nikolay Goldobin tally while Jacob Markstrom was saddled with the loss with both goals allowed on 27 shots.
Filip Chytil scored on a second period power play for the Rangers before Brett Howden scored the winner at 11:19 of the third. New York received 25 saves from Henrik Lundqvist to up his record to 6-6-2.
The New York Islanders will be gunning for back to back wins after defeating Vancouver 5-2 on Tuesday. Brendan Leipsic and Jake Virtanen lit the lamp for the Canucks and Jacob Markstrom gave up five goals on 34 shots to get the loss.
The Islanders saw Tom Kuhnhackl score twice with Josh Bailey, Jordan Eberle and Cal Clutterbuck all reaching the scoring column. Brock Nelson assisted twice and Thomas Greiss picked up the win for New York with 21 saves.
Under is 5-0 in Rangers last 5 Thursday games and under is 4-0-1 in Rangers last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and Rangers are 6-1 in their last 7 overall. Under is 4-0 in Islanders last 4 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and over is 2-0-2 in Islanders last 4 overall and Islanders are 8-0 in their last 8 vs. Metropolitan. Rangers are 0-6 in the last 6 meetings in New York and under is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings in New York and Rangers are 5-16 in the last 21 meetings.
The Islanders have generally fared well in this matchup and I believe that trend continues…
