Late night NHL action features a matchup between the Calgary Flames and the visiting Nashville Predators.
The Nashville Predators might have snuck in to the playoffs last season but it doesn’t appear this team needs to sneak up on anything now. Nashville has been getting the job done in all areas with wins in five of six and seven of ten after defeating the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 on Thursday night. The Oilers racked up 46 shots and ended up with a goose egg while Laurent Brossoit allowed four goals on 23 shots.
The Predators scored four times in the second with Pontus Aberg, Kevin Fiala, Kyle Turris and Roman Josi each finding the back of the net. Nashville received a pair of helpers from Mattias Ekholm while backup goalie Juuse Saros turned aside all 46 shots he faced in upping his record to 3-3-1.
The Calgary Flames have not sustained any type of hot streak and that trend has to change if the team expects to move up the standings with the ultimate goal of making the playoffs. Calgary has followed a two game winning streak with consecutive defeats following Thursday night’s 3-2 loss to the visiting San Jose Sharks.
The Flames received scoring from Michael Frolik and Johnny Gaudreau but Mike Smith allowed three goals on 29 shots including the late winner. The San Jose attack featured goals off the sticks of Timo Meier, Chris Tierney and Joonas Donskoi with 2:48 remaining in the third. Aaron Dell stopped 32 shots to get the win for the Sharks.
Predators are 4-0 in their last 4 Saturday games and Predators are 7-1 in their last 8 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and Predators are 5-1 in their last 6 overall. Under is 4-0 in Flames last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 4-0 in Flames last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 5-1-2 in Flames last 8 Saturday games. Road team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings and over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Calgary and under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
No team stays hot and wins every game but I’m thinking Nashville will continue to play well…
