The Predators look to continue their push towards the NHL playoffs as they head into Calgary to face off against the Flames.
The Nashville Predators got a huge victory in Winnipeg last night and moved to within five points of the St. Louis Blues for third in the Central division and pulled ahead of the Minnesota Wild by eight points in the wild card race. The Predators have really turned it up since the all-star break and look as though they are a shoe in to get in to the Western Conference playoffs and with an 8-0-2 mark in their last 10 contests they are among the league’s hottest teams and can keep it rolling with another win against the struggling Flames. Pekka Rinne has been solid this season after an inconsistent 2014-15 and while he is likely to take a back seat to Carter Hutton in tonight’s game he is certainly worthy of mention as one of the main factors in Nashville’s turn around. The Flames will try to snap their ugly losing ways as they are likely to send Joni Ortio to the crease who has struggled since taking over as the team’s starter.
The Flames have had a tough season and have gone from last year’s Cinderella in the Western Conference to an underachieving group that is too reliant on its young talent and has fallen well short of preseason expectations. Calgary has a ton of work to do if they’re going to get back in the conversation as a Western Conference power house but they have still defended home ice very well and sit with a 17-14-2 mark at the Saddledome which is one saving grace on an otherwise very disappointing season. The Flames can’t seem to keep pucks out of their net and while Nashville isn’t known as an offensive force by any means I do think they can do enough here to get another victory and continue their winning ways.
