The St. Louis Blues look to shake off a road loss to the Edmonton Oilers as they continue their Alberta road trip on Saturday night against the Calgary Flames.
The Blues couldn’t muster any form of offense against the previously defensively inept Edmonton Oilers in their show down in Edmonton on Thursday night and will look to find it against their former goaltender Brian Elliott on Saturday. The Blues are amongst the best teams in the NHL this season and won’t take too kindly to how they played against the Oilers on Thursday night so you can be sure that Ken Hitchcock will have them fired up in a rebound effort tonight. St. Louis will turn to new full time starter Jake Allen here who is 2-1-1 with a 1.99 GAA and a .909 save percentage while the Flames are left with Elliott who has been awful so far this season with an 0-3 record and a goals against sitting at 4.72.
The Flames have stumbled out of the gate with their latest loss coming at home against the lowly Carolina Hurricanes and things don’t get any easier here as the face off against Alex Pietrangelo and the Blues. Calgary is expected to be a playoff team this season as they have a budding young core of offensive talent led by Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, and Sam Bennett but they have been quiet so far and don’t look poised for a breakout here against one of the best defensive teams in the league and a goaltender looking to make a statement this season.
The Blues are 20-9 in their last 29 road games and 67-27 in their last 94 Saturday games while the Flames are 4-9 in their last 13 against the West and 1-4 in their last five overall. Calgary is off to a slow start and now they have a Blues team coming off a tough loss and facing their former goaltender? Take the Blues.
