The St. Louis Blues look to continue their amazing start to the season as they head into Calgary to battle with the Flames who have turned up the heat over the last two weeks.
The Blues have been one of the league’s best teams to start the season and they are out to prove it once again as they head into Calgary to take on a Flames side who has put away a slow start to the year and has since looked like a group capable of getting back to the playoffs in the Western Conference. St. Louis has been a Western Conference power house over the last 10 seasons but much like we have seen from the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference they have never been able to get over the hurdle in the playoffs and will continue to be labeled as a playoff underachiever until they can finally knock down the door. This could very well be the season the Blues do so as they have a ton of depth up front, an emerging star in Jaden Schwartz who is looking like an MVP candidate right now, and a goaltender in Jake Allen who has earned his keep as the every day goaltender.
The Flames meanwhile are 4-1 in their last five home games and will be in tough in this one as they welcome the Blues, but if there is any team who is capable of matching up with St Louis it is Calgary as they have some depth up front and their own point producer in Johnny Gaudreau. Calgary also has a deep blue line and a goaltender in Mike Smith who has been completely resurgent since his move out of the desert and now that he is finally playing for a team that has a chance to do something special, the veteran netminder looks like he is ready to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup.
The Blues are 5-1 in their last six against the Pacific and 40-19 in their last 59 overall while the Flames are 4-1 in their last five overall and 13-6 in their last 19 against the Central. St. Louis is the better team in my books but it is very close and with the Flames playing well at home they are well worth the look here in what should be an exciting contest.
