The Flames look to continue their recent success as they welcome the St. Louis Blues to town on a jam packed Saturday night on the ice.
The Blues look to shake off a loss on the road to the Vancouver Canucks as they continue their Canadian road trip in Calgary on Saturday night as they look to avoid dropping their 8th game in 9 tries against teams from the Pacific division. St. Louis has fallen off considerably this season as they have long been contenders in the Western Conference but this year they look like a far cry from that distinction as they are well back in the Central division and will need a heck of a turnaround in the new year to make up ground. The Blues have struggled on the road and have been even worse against good home teams and that is exactly the situation they find themselves in on Saturday against a Flames side that is 4-1 in their last 5 on home ice and has been dominant playing on Saturday night.
The Flames have won 5 of their last 6 games against Central division opponents and are 8-3 in their last 11 games overall and as such they find themselves as a substantial home favorite on Saturday night. Calgary is 5-2 in their last 7 contests with the Blues and the home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two sides and with the depth advantage is basically every facet of the game it makes sense to see the Flames as such a heavy favorite in this spot. David Rittich is expected to get the start in the Calgary goal as he will face off against Jake Allen.
The Blues are winless in their last 4 Saturday games and have played to the Over in 8 of their last 10 games on a Saturday while the Flames are 12-3 in their last 15 games playing on a day’s rest and have hit the Over in 15 of their last 21 home games. This one has the makings of a high scoring contest and with Calgary likely to win by multiple goals look for this one to go over the total.
