The Calgary Flames host the Vancouver Canucks in a Saturday NHL matchup.

The Vancouver Canucks opened their season with a 5-2 victory versus visiting Calgary on Wednesday. Vancouver led 1-0 heading to the third period before exploding for four goals to win easily.

The Canucks saw goals from Elias Pettersson, Nikolay Goldobin, Brendan Leipsic, Jake Virtanen and Tyler Motte with Loui Eriksson adding a pair of assists.

The Calgary Flames never found the groove at the offensive end of the ice in Wednesday’s season opening defeat at Vancouver. Calgary also had a third period meltdown defensively with the Canucks scoring four times.

Matthew Tkachuk and Sean Monahan provided the Flames with their scoring but couldn’t cut their deficit below two goals.

Mike Smith absorbed the loss for Calgary with four goals given up on 22 shots while Jacob Markstrom picked up the victory with a pair of goals allowed on 35 shots.

Under is 9-1 in Canucks last 10 road games and Canucks are 1-7 in their last 8 games playing on 2 days rest and Canucks are 1-6 in their last 7 in the second game of a home-and-home situation. Flames are 0-6 in their last 6 games playing on 2 days rest and Flames are 1-7 in their last 8 games following a loss of 3 or more goals and Flames are 2-10 in their last 12 overall. Over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings and Canucks are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Calgary and over is 17-5-4 in the last 26 meetings in Calgary.

I think it’s wise not to go heavy on teams for a few weeks until we watch them play several times and with that in mind I’ll go with the over…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
