The defending Cup champions look to shake off a 4-1 loss to the Oilers as they head into Calgary to face off against the Flames on Saturday.
The Capitals looked pedestrian in their loss to the Oilers on Thursday night and will look to get back to their championship form with a rebound effort against a gritty Flames side. Washington is 4-3-2 to start the season and have points in 6 of their first 9 games and have had some displays offensively that warrant them in the discussion as a Cup contender once again but they will be in tough against a Flames side who is capable of big things this season as well. Pheonix Copley is expected to get the start for the Capitals as he will square off with Mike Smith who has been confirmed as the Saturday night starter for Calgary.
The Flames are a tough out playing on home ice and they will look to take advantage of a Washington side who didn’t look great against Edmonton on Thursday night. Calgary has struggled against the Metro division as they are just 1-5 in their last 6 games but they often elevate their game when playing on the NHL’s marquee day with a 4-0 mark in their last 4 Saturday games. The Flames have the offensive fire power to keep up with the Capitals and while neither side has the best defensive grouping the under has hit with a high degree of frequency lately as they have been low scoring show downs in 4 of their last 5.
The Caps are 6-1 in their last 7 against the Pacific and 20-8 in their last 28 Saturday games while Calgary is 7-15 in their last 22 home games and 4-9 in their last 13 against the Eastern Conference. Both teams can score and with Copley and Smith slated to start this one looks like it’ll go over the number that is already high at 6.5
