The Jets look to shake off a tough loss in Edmonton last night and salvage a split in Alberta as they take on a Flames team that has won 10 of their 15 games at home this season.
The Winnipeg Jets couldn't buy a goal last night as they peppered Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot with 45 shots and only managed to get one past him in what was a 3-1 loss to an Edmonton side that has been on fire on home ice of late. The Jets though can take on positive and that is how many offensive chances they had and if they can continue to produce scoring chances they will eventually start to go in and that could happen as early as Tuesday night in Calgary. The Jets didn't get the outing out of Connor Hellebuyck they were looking for and had to put Mike Hutchinson in in relief which could alter the decision to start him tonight as he was expected to play in the back half of the double header and that could have changed thanks to his minutes last night. Either way, Hutch is expected to start as he will go up against Jonas Hiller who has reclaimed the starter's role in Calgary.
The Flames have been streaky throughout the course of the season as they started off ice cold and looked destined to finish at the bottom of the league standings but since then they have turned it on and look like a group who could very well go on a playoff run once again this season. Calgary hasn't had the production out of their back end that they had a season ago and as such they haven't been winning as many games but they have had some statement wins this year including two in a row against the league leading Stars and if they can carry that momentum into this game heading into the Christmas break they can consider the last two weeks a success. However, the Jets will be out for redemption in this one and after the chances they had last night I think they finally get some of them to break through and as such I like them to get the victory tonight.
