The Jets loo to build off of last night`s thrilling comeback victory over the Bruins as they head into Calgary to take on the red hot Flames.
The Jets were huge home underdogs against the Eastern Conference leading Bruins last night but as we predicted the Jets came away in top behind a stellar comeback effort they ultimately won in a shootout giving the home fans a special treat to remember. Winnipeg is one of the league`s biggest underachievers as to me they are a very talented team that could do some damage in the playoffs but some off ice distractions and inconsistent play has stalled their progress as has them searching for answers. Winnipeg will have another gruelling offseason but in a relatively deep draft and a summer that will be filled with free agents they have a shot at jumping back into the fold as early as next season. The Jets do however have to skate into Calgary tonight to take on a Flames team who is 7-3 in their last 10 games and have won four in a row. Ondrej Pavelec is expected to get his second straight start but that could change.
The Flames are playing their best hockey of the season at the moment and while some say it may be too late I think it is a differenct circumstance as there were no expectations of making the playoffs in Calgary this season. Nonetheless, they are playing very well at the moment as they have won four games in a row and while there will be some changes and additions to this team in the offseason they have to be happy with the output they are getting at the moment. Sean Monahan has been brilliant as a rookie and scored 20+ goals for a first year Flame for the first time since Jarome Iginla which has solidified Monahan as a go to piece in this organization for years to come. Calgary also has to be ecstatic with the way Kari Ramo has played this season as he is actually four games above .500 and will likely earn the starter`s role heading into training camp. While the Jets are coming off a huge win and may actually push this line closer to a pick as a result I like the home team here and I think Calgary gets another victory at the expense of Winnipeg.
