The Anaheim Ducks look to shake off an ugly effort in Tampa Bay last night as they continue their road trip in Raleigh, North Carolina to take on the Hurricanes.
The Ducks had arguably their worst effort of the season last night in a marquee game that would have solidified them as the best team in hockey at the moment but they laid an egg against a Steven Stamkos-less Tampa Bay team. Anaheim couldn’t muster much offense against Ben Bishop and the Tampa Bay defensive unit who have really stepped up after losing their offensive and team leader earlier this week in Boston. The Ducks need to respond here and while they’re playing in a back to back they’re considered favourites against a Carolina team that is coming off a big win over the Avalanche. Jonas Hiller gets the call between the pipes for Anaheim as he matches up with Justin Peters.
The Hurricanes have once again been dismantled by the injury bug as the seemingly recurring pattern of losing Cam Ward in goal has struck the team for the second straight year. The Hurricanes were projected to make a push up the standings this season but without Ward between the pipes to give the team some stability it could be another long season in Raleigh and come trade deadline time they may become very busy selling some key components. With that being said there is still plenty of time left in the regular season and the Canes sit with a .500 mark at the moment and are coming off their most impressive win of the year against the red hot Avalanche. While the Canes have the capability to shut down the Ducks I don’t see them having the same success that they did against Colorado and I expect the Ducks to respond after last night’s debacle.
