The Arizona Coyotes stay on the road with a stop at the Carolina Hurricanes in Sunday NHL action.
The Arizona Coyotes are gunning for back to back wins after upending the New York Rangers 4-3 in OT Friday to end a four game slide. New York led 3-0 on power play goals from Pavel Buchnevich, Kevin Hayes and Mika Zibanejad. Hayes also had an assist with Henrik Lundqvist getting the loss with four goals allowed on 34 shots.
The Coyotes scoring came off the sticks of Jordan Oesterle, Josh Archibald and Oliver Ekman-Larsson in regulation. Derek Stepan scored in OT with Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz each posted two helpers for Arizona who received 27 saves from Adin Hill.
The Carolina Hurricanes need a change in momentum after a 6-5 SO loss to Washington saddled the team with defeats in six of seven. Sebastian Aho topped Carolina with a pair of goals with Jordan Martinook, Teuvo Teravainen and Justin Williams each lighting the lamp. Teravainen and Aho added a pair of helpers and Scott Darling gave up five goals on 29 shots to get the loss for the Hurricanes.
Alex Ovechkin led the Washington attack with a hat trick with Tom Wilson and Travis Boyd adding regulation markers. Nicklas Backstrom and Jacob Vrana scored in the SO with Nic Dowd and John Carlson posting three assists each to lift the Capitals and the 22 stops of Braden Holtby to the win.
Coyotes are 0-5 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 6-1 in Coyotes last 7 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation and Coyotes are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference. Under is 4-0 in Hurricanes last 4 Sunday games and Hurricanes are 1-6 in their last 7 overall and under is 6-1 in Hurricanes last 7 vs. a team with a losing record. Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Carolina and over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings and Coyotes are 3-7 in the last 10 meetings.
My thinking is the over with the way goals have been scoring lately by these teams…
