The Hurricanes return home after a tough 3-1 loss against the Maple Leafs last night and they’ll look for redemption in a match up with the Bruins.
The Boston Bruins head into Raleigh on Friday night looking to improve their standing in the Atlantic division as they currently sit in third place but are actually tied in point with the Lightning and just a single up on the Red Wings for fourth. Boston has been ridiculous on the road this season and they will need to find that same productivity in this one against a Canes side that is very much in the hunt for a wild card spot and is coming off a tough loss yesterday in which they spoiled a great opportunity to make up some ground. Tuukka Rask is expected to get the call in the Boston crease as the B’s carry in a 20-7-3 record on the road and he will likely face off against Eddie Lack who will look to give the Canes their 17th home win of the year.
The Hurricanes have been red hot since the all-star break and could very well exceed all expectations this season by sneaking into the playoffs but they are in some tough company and will have to score some big victories to close out the year. However, the Canes could be in tough in the next week or so as it is expected that some mainstay pieces could be on the way out as guys like Eric Staal and Cam Ward have been in trade discussions and if that happens than Carolina could go into full seller mode and move away some glue that could propel them into hockey’s second season. Carolina is a good team but the Bruins are a bit better and with the way they play on the road I like them in this spot.
