The Buffalo Sabres look for their second win in as many games as they head into Raleigh to do battle with the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
The Sabres outlasted the Islanders in Buffalo last night and will be out for an encore as they take to the road to battle a Carolina side that is coming off a tough shootout loss to the Capitals in what was a very competitive contest that can be something to build on for them. The Sabres though are starting to turn things around and with Jack Eichel back in the lineup they have so much more to work with in the offensive zone and if guys like Kyle Okposo can continue their resurgence in the offensive zone this team could surprise people and make a run at a playoff spot. Buffalo is expected to send Anders Nilsson to the crease in this one after Robin Lehner got the win last night as he will face off against Cam Ward who remains the every game starter but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Eddie Lack tonight instead.
The Hurricanes are coming off a tough loss at hoe but have been very good otherwise when playing in Raleigh this season and they will be out for more as they welcome a Sabres side that is sitting at the .500 mark and is 5-5-2 on the road. Carolina went on a late surge last season that led many people to think they would be a playoff caliber group this season but they still have alarming holes and need to fill them before they can be considered a playoff threat, especially in the competitive Metro division that has the likes of Washington, New York, and Pittsburgh.
The Sabres are 21-43 in their last 64 Saturday games and 38-90 in their last 128 road games while the Canes are 7-1 in their last eight home games and 4-1 in their last five playing in a back to back. This is an interesting game as the Canes have been excellent at home but the Sabres to me are the better team and should get the win at a nice price.
