Anton Khudobin has been a pleasant surprise in goal for the Carolina Hurricanes this season but if the Canes are going to get to where they want to be they need Cam Ward to solidify himself as the No. 1 goaltender moving forward. Khudobin's recent injury will give Ward that chance but his first test on Tuesday night won't be an easy one. The Hurricanes will be trying to bounce back from two straight losses after falling to the Los Angeles Kings in a tight contest and then allowing five goals to the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday. Ward relieved Khudobin in that game after his injury but surrendered three goals on just 12 shots in the loss. Carolina has the weapons to put some goals on the board but Ward is the key to success for them this season.
Chicago has continues to win hockey games but they haven't been in a dominant fashion. They defeated the New York Islanders 3-2 and followed that up with a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Patrick Kane continued his hot start with another goal and Ben Smith also added a tally in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated. Chicago couldn't expand their lead but controlled play for two periods against an overmatched Sabres club. This should be more of a test for them on Tuesday night as the Hurricanes will present some speed that can be tough to deal with. Corey Crawford made 28 saves to pick up the victory against Buffalo with 12 of those coming in the final frame.
