The Blue Jackets look to snap out of their losing funk and chase down the Hurricanes when the two teams meet in Raleigh on Friday.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have been one of the league’s biggest disappointments this season as a very slow start combined with underachieving start power has forced their hand in the Metro and they have traded away one of their bright young stars in Ryan Johansen. The Jackets badly needed some help on the blue line and they got it in the form of Seth Jones from the Nashville Predators and while the trade worked out in everyone’s favour it is tough for the Jackets to part with the youngster just a year after he was basically given the keys to the city in Columbus. The Jackets will look to pull within four points of the Canes in the Metro division.
The Hurricanes meanwhile have been playing much better of late and while they still have a ways to go before they can be considered a contender for a wild card spot they are certainly doing their best to get there. The Canes are just five points out of a wild card spot and with a winnable game on the docket here they could very well land in a postseason position by the end of the weekend in what would be a pretty big surprise in its own right. The Canes to me are the better of these two teams and they’re on home ice so I will give them the win here against a Jackets side still looking to find an identity.
